SVHCAA CHAT ROOM

Welcome to the new SVHCAA chat room. This chat feature is very easy to use, there is no registration. Just fill in the "user name" field and click "okay, connect!". It's that simple!

So that we may know who you are please use your real name in the "user name" field. Empty spaces are not permitted so when you sign in type it like this... JohnHancock73. Use your full name and graduating year. It's not necessary to fill out any of the other fields, that is for the paid version only.

In order for this chat to remain free we must endure many pop-up ads. Yes they are annoying, just click the "X" in the top right corner of the ad window to close them.

If you have any problems scroll down for some quick tips and general help or feel free to contact one of us.

We officially meet every
Thursday night at 7:00pm pst (10pm est)
But feel free to chat anytime with anyone.

Chat Tips
Netiquette:

Netiquette is the code of conduct when communicating online, whether in chat, e-mail or message boards. Here are some netiquette tips to keep you in good favor:

Be polite. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Do not use all caps. It's considered shouting. UNLESS YOU REALLY NEED TO. Do not use obscenities. Do not use abusive, hateful or otherwise offensive language. Use emoticons and abbreviations to convey emotion.

What do the chat buttons do?
  • The 'View Web Page' button opens a new browser and displays the last URL typed in the message box.
  • The 'Help' button displays the Chat F.A.Q. in a new browser.
  • The 'Float' button displays the chat window in a floating browser. It also makes the chat area larger.
  • The 'Private Chat' button allows you to send a private message, highlight the user from the user list and click on the 'Private Chat' button. A smaller pop up chat window will appear. You chat session will remain private in this window until you log out of the room or close the window.
  • The 'Ignore User' button screens out obnoxious users, highlight the user from the users list and select the ‘Ignore User’ button.

How to join the chat?

To start chatting, enter your user name (full name and graduating year) and click "OK Connect!" Your user name is valid for your current chat session. No empty spaces are allowed, you will not be able to connect if you enter the chat like this... John Hancock 73.

How to send a message?

Chat messages are displayed in the chat message area. To add to the conversation, type in your message in the text box below the message area and click on 'Send' or hit the return key on your keyboard.

By default your message is sent to all users.

How do I leave a chat room?

To end your chat session, click the ‘Log Off’ or 'Sign Out' button.

Why do I get timed out or kicked off the chat?

Most ParaChat rooms are set to have an idle time for 10 minutes. This means if a user does not type in any message for up to 10 minutes, the chat server assumes the user to be idle and disconnects. If you want to lurk (watch and not chat) and do not want to get timed out, just type in a period and hit the send button (before the 10 minute timeout).
